Guided Trip Packing List
Must-Have Items for an Epic Trip
Planning a guided fishing trip can be an exciting adventure, but it’s important to ensure you’re well-prepared for the experience. This packing list provides the basics you’ll want to have on every guided trip. While it may not be an exclusive list, it serves as a solid foundation to get you started. Your guide will provide the essential items you need to have a successful day on the water but the items listed below will make your experience much more comfortable.
Montana weather can be adverse, one of the most crucial aspects of your packing strategy is to be ready for changing weather conditions.
1. Clothing:
Layering is key. Start with moisture-wicking base layers to keep you dry, followed by insulating layers like fleece or wool. A waterproof and windproof jacket is essential to protect you from unexpected rain and wind. Don’t forget a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses to shield yourself from the sun.
2. Footwear:
Comfortable, waterproof shoes or boots are a must. Sandals can also be a good option for relaxing after a long day on the water. We have Wading Boots or Muck Boots available to rent, please arrange ahead of time to ensure availability of sizes.
3. Waders:
Waders are a great option during the cooler months or when adverse weather conditions might exist. We have chest waders available to rent, please arrange ahead of time to ensure availability of sizes.
4. Fishing Gear:
While your guide will provide the fly-fishing gear, it’s always a good idea to bring your favorite rod and reel if you have them, the most common is a 8'6" or 9' #4, #5 or #6. Don’t forget to pack a selection of flies and any personal tackle you prefer to use. Demo Rods from top manufacturers are available for rent and should be arranged ahead of time.
5. Personal Items:
Bring along sunscreen, insect repellent, and a first-aid kit. These items can make a big difference in your comfort and safety during your trip. A reusable water bottle is also essential to stay hydrated throughout the day.
By following this packing list, you’ll be well-prepared for your guided fishing trip. Remember, the key is to stay flexible and ready for whatever Mother Nature throws your way. Happy fishing!
